Boron-doped diamond: Broad application prospects in the biomedical field

In the field of semiconductors, the performance and characteristics of materials have always been the focus of researchers. In recent years, a material called "boron-doped diamond" has gradually come into people's view with its unique properties and great application potential, and is expected to bring revolutionary breakthroughs to the development of semiconductor technology.


Diamond, as a natural carbon crystal, is famous for its ultra-high hardness and excellent optical transparency. When scientists introduce boron into the diamond crystal, this material shows amazing new properties. Boron atoms have one less electron than carbon atoms. When they replace some carbon atoms and enter the diamond lattice, they form periodic electron "holes" in the lattice. These "holes" greatly improve the electrical conductivity of diamond, thus endowing it with electrical conductivity comparable to that of metals. The biocompatibility and chemical inertness of boron-doped diamond make it have broad application prospects in the biomedical field. For example, in medical imaging technology, boron-doped diamond can be used as a high-performance detection material. Its high electrical conductivity and optical transparency can improve the sensitivity and resolution of imaging equipment, thus enabling clearer observation of the fine structures inside the human body.

 

In addition, boron-doped diamond can also be used to manufacture high-sensitivity biochips and molecular sensors. These sensors can accurately detect the presence and changes of biomolecules, providing strong support for the early diagnosis and treatment of diseases.
